Dragonfly - YEAR 1
Welcome to Dragonfly Class page!
Meet the Dragonfly Team!
]
In Year 1 we have had a super start to the year and can’t believe we are almost at Christmas.
In English, we have covered a range of stories including Julien is a mermaid, Rapunzel, I Want My Hat Back, Jim and the Beanstalk and Owl Babies. We have enjoyed building up our writing stamina over this time and are super impressed with how independent children are becoming with their writing.
In Maths, we have really been working on securing our number knowledge to 20, but we’ve also ventured into counting in 10s to 100. We have been using a variety of concrete objects to help us order numbers but also recently to help us begin to add two parts to make a whole.
In our foundation subjects, we have loved getting creative in Art and developing our drawing skills, taking great pride in our sketch books. We are currently designing and planning a Fruit salad that we will make over the coming weeks. We are thoroughly enjoying our current topic on The Gunpowder Plot, and we had great fun walking around our Local area linking to our topic on Lytchett Matravers in Geography.
To support your child’s learning at home could you please make sure you are reading with your child and listening to them read at least 3 times a week and writing this in their reading records.
Spellings will begin once we are back from the Christmas holidays.
Number and letter formations are key in the early years so if you would like to do more at home then please speak to your class teacher who can provide you with the appropriate resources to practise this at home.
Thank you
Hello and welcome to the Dragonflies class page. It has been a lovely couple of days meeting the new Dragonflies and helping them to settle into Year 1. It was great to see the postcards that you completed over the summer holidays, and it was lovely to hear all about your adventures. I cannot wait to make great memories with all the children this year. Stay tuned to see what we get up to this term.
Remote Learning - Day 1
Welcome to the first day of remote learning.
Day 1 will include;
English
Today we would like you to encourage your child to write some 'I can see' sentences. They have previously done this activity but will apply their writing skills to this different context. They will start their sentence by writing 'I can see' and will then complete that sentence by sounding out (don't forget to encourage 'Fred Fingers') different things that they can see. Your child might like to do this whilst looking through a book and then writing about what they can see in the pictures. In this activity we would focus on using capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and sounding out words phonetically even if they aren't spelt correctly - encourage the children to look for 'Special Friends', do 'Fred Talk' and then 'Read the Word'.
